“A nation cannot prosper without virtue, nor can a person find true fulfillment without it.” Cultivating virtue and nurturing character are the ultimate mission of education and a defining pillar of China’s educational philosophy. As the saying goes, “Those who shape the character of others must first shape their own; those who inspire young minds must first be inspired themselves.” A faculty of strong moral fiber is the cornerstone of educational excellence. With this conviction, Vanke Bilingual School (VBS) sent its administrative leaders and key teachers to Qufu — the cradle of Confucianism and the birthplace of the eternal teacher Confucius — for a fourday intensive training program themed “Nurtured by the Breeze of Confucian Wisdom, Forging the Spirit of Teaching Excellence.”

On August 16, Principal Yang Fan, also Party Branch Secretary, led the group on this cultural pilgrimage. The journey aimed to transform ancient wisdom into a lived educational ethos and practical teaching mastery, ultimately building a teaching corps that embodies the “Four Qualities” — principled ideals, moral integrity, professional expertise, and compassionate dedication — while remaining both politically steadfast and professionally superb.

On August 18, the teachers visited the Confucius Museum and the China Teachers Museum, tracing the enduring flame of the teaching profession across generations and reaffirming their role as bearers of cultural heritage. In the afternoon, Lecturer Hao Jinjin led a case‑study session based on Confucius’s tenure as an official in the State of Lu. Through group discussions, teachers translated Confucian principles — such as balancing ritual with law and prioritizing moral instruction — into actionable pedagogical strategies. The evening featured a red‑music Party class by Lecturer Lu Chengcheng, using revolutionary melodies to revisit Party history and deepen patriotic commitment.

8月19日上午，全体教师走进金乡王杰纪念馆，缅怀英雄事迹，感悟“一不怕苦、二不怕死”的王杰精神，立志将奉献精神融入教书育人。下午，田家旺讲师作《祭孔大典 传统文化的传承和创新》的案例教学，引导教师从祭孔仪式的历史流变中，理解中华优秀传统文化“两创”的实践路径，强化教师推动中华优秀传统文化和现代教育融合的责任意识。晚间，孔子研究院院长孔德立教授围绕孔氏家风与儒家教育思想开展访谈教学。

In the afternoon, Lecturer Tian Jiawang presented a case study on “The Confucius Memorial Ceremony: Inheritance and Innovation in Traditional Culture,” enabling teachers to trace the historical evolution of sacrificial rites and grasp the practical pathways for the “creative adaptation and renewal” of China’s cultural heritage, while reinforcing their commitment to bridging tradition and modern education. That evening, Professor Kong Deli, Dean of the Confucius Research Institute, conducted an interview‑style session on the Kong family ethos and Confucian educational philosophy.

On August 20, Professor Kong Deli delivered a lecture on “The Meaning and Implications of ‘Education’ in the Confucian Tradition,” challenging teachers to embody the “Four Qualities” standard by cultivating themselves, bringing harmony to others, and refining their personal virtue. In the afternoon, the entire cohort traveled to Nishan Sacred Site for an on‑site experience — amid a drizzling rain, they explored the Nishan Confucian Temple and Confucius University Hall, looked up at the 72‑meter statue of the sage, and absorbed the essence of Confucian benevolence. Wandering through the University Hall’s halls dedicated to the Five Constants — benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom, and trustworthiness — they reflected on classical bamboo texts, drawing from the sages’ wisdom to seek innovative ways of integrating China’s timeless culture with contemporary education.

As the four‑day training drew to a successful close, several teacher representatives took the stage at the closing ceremony to share their insights. They affirmed their resolve to remain deeply rooted in China’s splendid traditional culture, uphold the principle of teaching according to individual aptitude, hold fast to the moral foundations of education, and achieve harmony between knowledge and action — translating Confucian wisdom and revolutionary spirit into tangible practice in their everyday teaching roles.
