Spring brings new life, summer nurtures growth, autumn offers a bountiful harvest, and winter invites quiet reflection. The four seasons are nature's oldest clock and our gentlest teacher. Using the changing scenery and the passage of time as paper and ink, they revealed the meaning of growth in every budding leaf and blooming flower. To develop students' public speaking and communication skills, enhance their proficiency in both Chinese and English, and provide opportunities for them to take center stage, Shenzhen Vanke Bilingual School held its 76th E-talk event in the school theatre on October 30th, 2026. Nearly 100 teachers and students attended the event.

Themed "Growing with the Seasons", this E-talk event was hosted by Joya Chen from Class 7C and Gristan Tan from Class 7G. Eight Grade 7 students took to the stage to share their stories of the four seasons in either Chinese or English. Some discovered the value of perseverance in the spring breeze, others learned the art of letting go beneath the autumn sunshine, while still others captured the subtle arrival of spring in the warmth of everyday life. The judging panel consisted of William and students in the audience. As both listeners and reviewers, everyone participated in a meaningful bilingual dialogue about the seasons and personal growth through attentive listening and sincere exchanges.

Anne Han from Class 7G delivered an English speech entitled "Seasons", exploring the relationship between the changing seasons and the importance of taking action. "Actions speak louder than words" was the motto displayed on her poster. Through sincere and straightforward words, she shared her reflections: the seasons never make empty promises; instead, they quietly change and nurture life. Likewise, we should turn our ideas into reality through practical actions. Her speech was brief yet powerful, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.

“Hope is the thing with feathers / that perches in the soul”——她借狄金森的诗句告诉大家:希望如飞鸟,栖居于每个人心间,无论身处哪个季节,都要怀抱希望向前走。

Alinda Zhang from Class 7I presented an English speech entitled "The Four Seasons". Like a seasonal guide, she introduced the timing, natural features, and weather of each season: trees, flowers, and birds in spring; beaches and watermelons in summer; falling leaves and harvests in autumn; and snow and chilly winds in winter. Quoting Emily Dickinson's poem, "Hope is the thing with feathers / That perches in the soul", she reminded everyone that hope, like a bird, lives within each of us. Whichever season of life we find ourselves in, we should always move forward with hope. At the end of her speech, she enthusiastically engaged the audience by asking, "What's your favorite season?" Her question was met with lively responses from students sitting in the theatre.

Good things also take time.”——好事需要时间,学习需要耐心。

Iris Zhang from Class 7E delivered a speech entitled "Autumn Is a Gentle Teacher", portraying autumn as a kind and gentle guide. She described how autumn arrives quietly, almost unnoticed: the breeze grows cooler, the leaves turn golden, the sweet fragrance of osmanthus fills the air, and the fallen leaves resemble little letters sent from summer. Beginning with the family reunions of the Mid-Autumn Festival, she quoted the classical Chinese verse, "May we all be blessed with longevity, though miles apart, we share the same moon", expressing feelings of love, gratitude, and longing beneath the full moon. She then connected the autumn harvest with the goals of a new school term: "Leaves do not fall all at once. Good things also take time." Just as good things take time, learning requires patience. She summarized the three lessons that autumn teaches us: change can be beautiful, hard work eventually bears fruit, and every ending holds the promise of a new beginning. Falling leaves are not simply a farewell, but a gentle promise that winter will eventually pass and spring will return.

“When winter says goodbye, spring comes with a warm smile.” 她引用雪莱的诗句作结:“If winter comes, can spring be far behind?”

Cathy Wang from Class 7C delivered an English speech entitled "Seasons". Beginning with the line, "When winter says goodbye, spring comes with a warm smile", she painted a vivid picture of early spring, when snow and ice melt, flowers burst into bloom, and withered grass turns green again. Peach trees put on their pink dresses, the sunshine grows warmer, and people take off their winter coats to welcome the gentle breeze and changing season. She explained that flowers are spring's most beautiful messengers, with hope its deepest meaning. Just as farmers sow seeds and patiently await the harvest, each of us plants our own goals and gives them time to grow. She concluded with Percy Bysshe Shelley's famous line, "If Winter comes, can Spring be far behind?" She loves spring not only for its beauty but also for the strength and vitality it represents.

Hugo Lai from Class 7I delivered a Chinese speech entitled "Cherish the Spring and Make the Most of Youth", celebrating the vitality and energy of spring. He began by describing gentle breezes, budding plants, blossoming flowers, and melting ice, creating a vivid picture of nature awakening. He then highlighted the Chinese saying, "A year's plan begins in spring", emphasizing that only through hard work in spring can we enjoy the harvest in autumn. The precious days of spring should never be wasted. He went on to explain that spring embodies perseverance and resilience: every new shoot has survived the hardships of winter. Quoting Principal Zhang Guimei, he reminded his fellow students that they are now experiencing the springtime of their lives, an age of bright eyes and promising futures. He encouraged everyone to cherish these precious years of youth. Drawing on the wisdom that a journey of a thousand miles begins with small steps and that great rivers are formed by countless little streams, he concluded by urging students to accumulate knowledge, work steadily, and grow patiently, so that their efforts today will eventually bear fruit.

Willow Liu from Class 7G delivered a speech entitled "The Beauty of the Four Seasons — Growing Towards the Light". Opening with the poetic line, "Let life be beautiful like summer flowers", she asked the audience what came to mind when they thought of spring. Her answer was perseverance: the courage to keep growing upwards despite the storms ahead. She compared the first year of junior secondary school to the early spring of life. Growth is never easy; what appears ordinary on the surface often involves quiet but meaningful progress. Breaking through the soil, taking root, growing taller, and gathering strength — every step towards the light takes place through countless unseen efforts. She ended her speech by encouraging her fellow students to make the most of spring and cherish their youth.

Ricky Wang from Class 7E delivered a Chinese speech entitled "Spring Arrives Quietly", exploring the traditional Chinese idea that spring represents harmony between heaven and nature. He suggested that spring may have already arrived without us noticing. It hides in a fragrant breeze, in willow catkins drifting through the air like large snowflakes, and in the first tender green shoots emerging on branches. "It is not that spring lacks passion; it simply does not seek attention." From the traditional custom of "biting the spring" by enjoying seasonal dishes such as shredded radish mixed with Chinese chives, to the birdsong celebrated in the classical poem "Spring Morning", he traced the arrival of spring through familiar scenes of everyday life. He also recalled bustling markets in the twelfth lunar month, brightly lit homes on Chinese New Year's Eve, and the crackling sounds of firecrackers. From the Longtaitou Festival on the second day of the second lunar month to the Qingming Festival, when spring gradually gives way to summer, he described how the season offers its tenderness to nurture all of the life it has awakened. He concluded with a heartfelt wish: may we all be like spring, holding on to our passions and pursuing our dreams with courage.

Serena Yuan from Class 7C presented an expressive Chinese recitation entitled "Spring", centered on the theme "Let Each Small Light Contribute to a Galaxy of Collective Brilliance". Through four vivid scenes — the spring breeze, spring sunshine, spring rain, and spring sky — she gradually unfolded the beauty of the season. The spring breeze is a gentle messenger that awakens the sleeping earth; the warm sunshine illuminates every corner, revealing snow-white pear blossoms, golden winter jasmine, and delicate pink peach blossoms. The soft, silent spring rain nourishes the soil and tender shoots, leaving the air fresh and sweet, while the clear spring sky stretches above a world full of life and vitality. She explained that spring symbolizes new life, hope, and fresh beginnings. As the saying goes, "A year's plan begins in spring", so we should cherish this wonderful season, pursue our passions, and maintain a positive attitude towards life. "I love the gentle, radiant spring described by Zhu Ziqing, but even more, I love the way we strive to grow in the spring sunshine." As her clear voice faded, warm applause filled the theatre.

At the end of the event, all of the speakers returned to the stage to receive commemorative certificates and take a group photograph. Through their unique perspectives on the four seasons, the eight speakers brought rich and meaningful interpretations to the theme "Growing with the Seasons". Some explored personal growth through the belief that actions speak louder than words; others discovered patience and the importance of letting go with autumn's gentle lessons. Some learned perseverance and resilience from the vitality of spring, while others found signs of spring's quiet arrival in the warmth of everyday life. Their heartfelt speeches reminded us that the four seasons are more than just nature's endless cycle; they are also a reflection of every young person's journey of growth. Spring brings new life, summer nurtures growth, autumn offers a harvest, and winter allows nature to rest. Everything has its season, and growth unfolds in its own time. The 76th E-talk event concluded successfully amidst warm applause and touching moments, but the seasonal stories of these young speakers will continue to unfold as time goes by.

The E-talk activity of Vanke Bilingual School is held once a week. Students can sign up to participate on their own. Both Chinese and English are accepted. The teacher arranges speakers with the same or similar topics to give speeches in the same period. The purpose is to enable students to be able to speak freely, confidently and bravely; to be good at thinking, debating, and doing research.

The stage of E-talk is open. We welcome every future teenager of VBS to come here, stand in the spotlight, and show their unique charm to the world; we encourage children to challenge themselves and break through difficulties; we believe that every child has unlimited potential. As long as they have the courage to stand on the stage, they may become real speakers.

Let us look forward to how the future teenagers of VBS will use their voices to lead us into their world and feel their enthusiasm and vitality on the E-talk stage.
