To further enhance students' public speaking skills and overall literacy, and to deepen their patriotic education, the 74th E-talk event at Vanke Bilingual School—along with the presentation of the results for Unit 2 of the Grade 6 UOI curriculum—was launched on October 13th, 2026, in the school's auditorium.
The event was hosted by students Qi Yuwen and Zheng Yinnuan, with the theme of “Reliving the Revolutionary Times and Keeping History's Voice in Our Hearts.” Sixth-grade students brought their UOI classroom explorations and reflections to the stage, revisiting revolutionary history through themed speeches, storytelling, choral performances, and recitations, carrying forward the spirit of red heritage. Over two hundred teachers and students attended in person, while the event was simultaneously live-streamed across the entire school. Continuing the E-talk tradition, all of the judges were the students present at the scene—serving not only as audience members but also as critics and evaluators.

Students from Classes 6D and 6O took the stage first, performing a hulusi rendition of “Ying Shan Hong” followed by a recitation of the poem “Seven-Character Poem on the Long March.” As the familiar melody filled the air, the students conveyed through their hulusi playing the deep longing of the people in Soviet areas for their Red Army. Then, with powerful voices, they echoed the bold spirit expressed in the lines: “The Red Army fears no hardship on its long march; ten thousand rivers and mountains are but trivial obstacles.” On the backdrop screen, the route of the Long March unfolded gradually—from the Gan and Xiang Rivers to the Wu and Jinsha Rivers, from Zunyi and Lou Mountain Passes to Dadu River and Luding Bridge, from Jiajin Mountain and Dawai to Maoergai and the grasslands of Songpan. The music and poetry intertwined, transporting the audience back to those arduous days of crossing the mountains and rivers, enduring countless dangers. With youthful voices, the students reflected back upon the Long March path, expressing the power of faith and indomitable will amidst the very landscapes their ancestors once traversed.

Then, Qian Xiyuan from Class 6O delivered a speech titled “Listening to the Red Echoes and Striving to Be a Young Pioneer.” Starting with the question, "Where does our happy life come from?" she called on her classmates to remember heroes, take responsibility, and strive to be exemplary youth of the new era. She concluded with a resolute pledge: “We will not waste our prime years—our strong nation depends on us.”

In the story “A Red Army Cap,” Xie Bingxuan, a student from Class 6V, recounted the memory of sixteen-year-old Hu Dongsheng joining the Red Army and crossing snow-covered mountains. During the march, the political commissar quietly took his rations and rifle, and finally placed the red star-adorned Red Army cap on his head before making the ultimate sacrifice. That Red Army cap has never faded, and that patriotic heart continues to beat forever.

Students from Class 6C and 6I performed a choral rendition of "Defend the Yellow River." With passionate enthusiasm, they sang the stirring melody— “The wind howls, horses cry, the Yellow River roars”—building in intensity layer by layer, taking the audience back to the turbulent years of the War of Resistance. The furious waves of the Yellow River, the nation's cries for justice, and the vow to defend their homeland converged into a powerful force through the choir. The uplifting music resonated deeply with patriotism and national pride, allowing all who were present to feel the indomitable and courageous spirit of the Chinese people.

Deng Wei, a student from Class 6D, delivered a speech titled “Carrying Forward the Red Bloodline and Striving to Be a Youth of Our Era,”centered on Li Dazhao. Starting from his former residence, the speech traced his journey of study and aspiration at the Beiyang Law and Politics Specialized School and Waseda University in Tokyo. It recounted how he spread Marxism through the magazine *New Youth*, founded the Society for the Study of Marxist Theory, promoted the first cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, and remained steadfast and unyielding even in prison. The spirit embodied by the phrase “bearing moral responsibility with iron shoulders and writing brilliant articles with skillful hands” which deeply moved the students, allowing them to profoundly appreciate the faith and sense of duty of this revolutionary pioneer.

Students Tong Kexin and Peng Junyang from Class 6G delivered a speech titled “The Mountains and Rivers Remember You,” paying tribute to the heroes of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea. They recounted the heroic deeds of communications officer Niu Baochai, who braved enemy fire to inspect telephone lines, and sacrificed his life to restore command communications during the Battle of Shangganling, as well as the legendary sniper Zou Xixiang, known for his precision shots at over a hundred meters. One by one, these real names transformed the phrase “The Mountains and Rivers Remember You" from a mere slogan into a heartfelt reality.

Students Zhang Jiarui and Fu Gaosheng from Class 6F delivered a speech titled “This Glorious Era Is Just as You Wished.” They began with their visit to Niangziguan, reviewing the background, causes, and three phases of the Hundred Regiments Offensive. They recounted the Eighth Route Army’s sabotage of the Zhengtai Railway, the battle for Niangziguan, and the defense of Shinao Mountain. Using tangible artifacts such as railway tracks left from the sabotage of the Baijin Railway and the special edition publication “The Hundred Regiments Offensive by the Eighth Route Army,” they made history vivid and tangible. At the end of their speech, they emphasized the importance of studying history diligently, protecting historical sites and relics, cherishing peace, and taking action in everyday life.

Students from classes 6G and 6F affectionately performed a choral rendition of “As You Wish.” In their clear and warm voices, there was deep gratitude to revolutionary predecessors, as well as the firm determination of today’s youth to carry on the torch and make the most of their precious time. As the melody gently flowed, patriotism and love for the nation resonated throughout the auditorium, allowing teachers and students alike to reflect on how today’s prosperous era is hard-won, and to cherish even more deeply the peace and happiness they enjoy.

During her presentation on “China in the Light of Lanterns,” Hu Sicheng from Class 6V used the name “Wang Xiaoya” as a thread to tell the story of an eleven-year-old female Red Army soldier who also bore that name during the Long March. She connected the flickering stars of revolutionary times with today's countless household lights, expressing profound respect for her predecessors and sincere love for her country.

Then students from Classes 6E and 6V presented the song-and-dance performance entitled “China in the Lights,” a number that blended dance, instrumental music, and choral singing. The instrumental melodies were lilting, the dancers moved with graceful ease, and the singing and lights set each other off in splendor. From the single spark of the revolutionary era to the brilliance of countless lights across today’s homes, this scene brought the emotion of the whole event to its climax and elevated the theme of “Keeping the Voice of History in Our Hearts” amid the lights and song: the path once trodden by our forebears is now being carried forward by the young, and the voice of history is echoing in the hearts of this generation.

At the end of the event, teachers Li Hanshu, Zhou Wenna, Sun Xiaoxi, and Li Chen presented certificates to all participating students. From in-depth explorations in UOI classrooms to vibrant performances on stage, vivid scenes from the revolutionary times deeply resonated with the students, while the voices of their predecessors inspired them to move forward courageously. The 74th E-talk and Grade 6 UOI showcase concluded successfully amidst applause and heartfelt emotion. May the students carry this faith and strength forward, continuing to write for the glory of this generation through every day of learning and growth.
