Zhao Hongyan highlighted critical environmental challenges such as global warming, resource depletion, and ecological crises, emphasizing that human activities are the primary cause. He proposed solutions including international cooperation, transitioning to sustainable economic models, promoting green technologies, and ecological conservation. Practical actions like water conservation, energy efficiency, rejecting single-use plastics, and waste sorting were recommended. He also cited examples such as campus initiatives, the three-generation afforestation efforts at Saihanba Forest Farm, and the Beijing Winter Olympics’ 100% green electricity supply. Judges Feedback: Hongyan, though understandably nervous as the first speaker, set a strong tone with your confident voice and logical flow. You effectively blended rational analysis with emotional appeals, though overlapping sections like Our Responsibility and Lets Act Together could be streamlined for sharper impact.

Ye Henger (Class 4I): Action Heroes for Nature

Through the lens of a “little detective,” Ye Heng’er exposed threats to wildlife from plastic pollution, river contamination, and melting Arctic ice. She stressed how air pollution, deforestation, and wildfires disrupt ecosystems and weaken forests’ climate-regulating functions. Her creative solutions included homemade fruit peel detergent, upcycling old T-shirts into shopping bags, and tree planting, urging everyone to become “environmental wizards.” Judges Feedback: As the Maya proverb says, The Earth does not belong to us; we belong to the Earth. Your heartfelt storytelling, innovative ideas, and blend of data with childlike wonder showcased profound ecological awareness. A louder voice and clearer pacing would elevate your message further!"

You Xiyu (Class 5G): Protecting Earth Starts with Rejecting Plastics

3.1.JPG

You Xiyu revealed that 8 million tons of plastic enter oceans annually, killing over 1 million marine animals. She warned of microplastics entering the human food chain and highlighted plastic’s centuries-long decomposition. Advocating bans on single-use plastics, biodegradable alternatives, and higher recycling rates, she urged practical actions like refusing plastic straws and reducing packaging waste. Judges Feedback: Your speech shone brightly! Transitioning seamlessly from aquariums to hard-hitting data, your proposals were actionable. Varying your tone and emotion could make your next performance even more captivating!

Chen Zhixi focused on microplastics (particles ≤5mm), citing WWF research that humans ingest a credit card’s worth weekly. She called for reducing plastic use, avoiding single-use items, and collective action to safeguard Earth’s health. Judge’s Feedback: Your personal approach to explaining microplastics resonated deeply. Zhou Ruihe emphasized that small individual actions—like reducing plastics, conserving water, and waste sorting—can collectively drive significant change. She encouraged becoming ambassadors for sustainability, inspiring others through personal example. Judge’s Feedback: Your heartfelt speech, blending the ‘tragedy of whales’ with tree planting and campus initiatives, radiated youthful responsibility.
