The flag-raising ceremony was hosted by Chen Zhixi and Dong Zixuan. Students Zhou Tang Haoyu and Chen Ziyu gave speeches under the national flag. Their speech topic was“Fight against drugs and hazards, benefit the country and people.”The resident first secretary, Yang Yijuan, delivered a presentation on current affairs.

尊敬的各位老师、亲爱的同学们，大家早上好! 今天我们演讲的主题是“扫除毒害，利国利民”。今天是虎门销烟185周年的纪念日，1839年的今天，清朝官员林则徐下令将从外国不法商贩那里收缴来的鸦片在虎门海滩当众销毁。随着林则徐一声令下，销烟开始，一箱又一箱的鸦片被逐一切割放入销烟池中。销烟工作持续了二十三天，共销毁鸦片约一百万公斤，此壮举震惊世界，史称虎门销烟。

Dear teachers and students, good morning! Today our topic is “Fight against drugs and hazards, benefit the country and people”. Today is the 185th anniversary of the Humen Opium Destruction. On this day in 1839, Qing Dynasty official Lin Zexu ordered the confiscation of opium from illegal foreign sellers and publicly destroyed it on the beach in Humen. With Lin Zexu’s command, the opium destruction began, and box after box of opium was cut and placed into the opium destruction pit. The opium destruction work continued for twenty-three days, and about a million kilograms of opium was destroyed, which shocked the world. This is called Humen Opium Destruction.

虎门销烟是中国近代史上反对帝国主义的重要标志，挽救了整个中华民族的命运，鼓舞了中国人民的斗志。回首虎门销烟的壮举，我们看到了民族英雄林则徐的坚定决心和果断行动。他用销烟的行动，宣告了中华民族对毒品的零容忍态度。 

The Humen Opium Destruction is an important symbol of resistance against imperialism in modern Chinese history, saving the fate of Chinese nation and inspiring the fighting spirit Chinese. Looking back at the heroic feat of the Humen Opium Destruction, we see the determination and action of the national hero Lin Zexu. With the opium destruction, he declared the zero tolerance attitude of the Chinese nation towards drugs.

毒品危害着人类社会，它严重侵害人的身体健康、销蚀人的意志，更侵蚀着整个社会的安定与和谐。毒品的存在，使得无数家庭破裂、无数青少年堕入犯罪深渊、社会民生受到严重威胁。习近平总书记强调：禁毒工作事关国家安危、事关民族兴衰、事关人民福祉。

Drugs are harmful to human society. Drugs destroy people’s  physical and mental health and erode the stability and harmony of society. Drugs has led to the breakup of countless families and juvenile crimes. It threaten the society and people's livelihoods. President Xi Jinping stressed that the anti-drug work is related to the security of the country, the rise and fall of the nation, and the well-being of people.

作为新时代的青少年，我们应该从小树立正确的价值观念，积极地参与到禁毒活动中来，用我们的行动向毒品说不，为建设一个纯净、和谐的社会贡献自己的力量。

As teenagers in the new era, we should establish correct values from an early age and actively participate in anti-drug activities. We should say no to drugs with our actions, and contribute to the construction of a pure and harmonious society.

据中国野生动物保护协会微信号5月29日消息，为推进大熊猫保护事业，近期与美国华盛顿国家动物园就新一轮大熊猫国际保护研究合作达成一致并签署协议。根据协议规定，来自中国大熊猫保护研究中心的一对大熊猫“宝力”和“青宝”将于今年晚些时候赴美开启新一轮大熊猫保护研究合作。

According to a WeChat message from the China Wildlife Protection Association on May 29, to advance the panda protection efforts, a new round of international research cooperation on giant pandas has recently been agreed upon and signed with the National Zoo in Washington, USA. According to the agreement, a pair of giant pandas, "Boli" and "Qingbao," from the China Giant Panda Protection and Research Center, will travel to the United States later this year to start this new round of giant panda protection research cooperation.
