万双网讯  2023年6月19日，万科双语学校2022-2023第二学期第二十周升旗仪式在操场举办。本周升旗仪式主持由1F班承担。1F班是一个团结友爱、奋发向上的集体。

VBS Net News  On June 19, 2023, the flag-raising ceremony for the 20th week of the second semester of 2022-2023 Vanke Bilingual School was held in the playground. Class 1F hosted the flag-raising ceremony this week. Class 1F is a united, friendly and progressive group.

升旗仪式由1F班的田阡陌和薛景文主持。张槿伊和戴彭兴做了国旗下讲话。他们演讲的题目是《弘扬传统 传承文化》。

The flag-raising ceremony was presided over by Tian Qianmo and Xue Jingwen from Class 1F. Zhang Geunyi and Dai Pengxing made speeches under the national flag. The topic of their speech was "Promoting Tradition and Inheriting Culture".

Dear teachers and students，

大家好！

Good morning！

端午节是我国的传统节日，始于春秋战国时期，至今已有两千多年的历史。关于这个古老的节日，有许多美丽的传说，其中最著名的就是屈原的故事。

The Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional festival in China, dating back to the Spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period. It has been celebrated for over 2000 years now . There are many beautiful legends about this ancient festival, the most likely of which is the story of Qu Yuan.

春秋战国时期，中原大地战火连天。楚国沦陷，屈原心如刀割。他不愿看到国破家亡的景象，就在农历五月初五这天，投江自尽。

The fall of the state of Chu left Qu Yuan heartbroken. He didn't want to see the scene of national destruction and family collapse, so on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, he threw himself into the river and committed suicide.

是怎样的精神促使这位伟大诗人纵身跃入滔滔江水呢?是那颗忧国忧民、热爱故土的心。

In VBS, every year during the Dragon Boat Festival, the school organizes some meaningful activities. For example, weaving colorful ropes, making sachets, and drawing posters. Nowadays, we are rediscovering our love for traditional Chinese culture, isn't it also a manifestation of our love for our motherland?

棕叶飘香，又一个端午节就要到了，让我们在品尝美味粽子的同时，重温屈原的铮铮铁骨，继承屈原的爱国精神吧!

6月14日晚，盖茨基金会创始人比尔·盖茨抵达北京，这是他自1994年以来的第十八次访华。十几年前，盖茨完全退出微软公司的管理层后，将全部的精力用在了慈善事业中。6月16日，国家主席习近平在北京会见比尔·盖茨。

On the evening of June 14, Bill Gates, founder of the Gates Foundation, arrived in Beijing. This was his eighteenth visit to China since 1994. More than ten years ago, after Gates completely quit the management of Microsoft, he devoted all his energy to philanthropy. On June 16, President Xi Jinping met with Bill Gates in Beijing.

习近平对盖茨及其基金会长期致力于促进全球减贫、卫生、发展及公益慈善事业表示赞赏。习近平强调，中国作为一个拥有14亿多人口的大国，保持长期稳定和持续发展，就是对世界和平、稳定、繁荣的重大贡献。中方愿同世界各国开展广泛科技创新合作，积极参与并推动应对气候变化、抗击疫情、公共卫生等全球性挑战。中方愿同比尔及梅琳达·盖茨基金会继续加强相关领域合作，并向其他发展中国家提供力所能及的支持和帮助。

Xi Jinping expressed appreciation for Gates and his foundation's long-term commitment to promoting global poverty reduction, health, development and public welfare and charity. Xi Jinping emphasized that China, as a large country with a population of more than 1.4 billion, maintains long-term stability and sustainable development, which is a major contribution to world peace, stability and prosperity. China is willing to carry out extensive scientific and technological innovation cooperation with all countries in the world, and actively participate in and promote global challenges such as climate change, epidemic prevention and public health. China is willing to continue to strengthen cooperation with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in relevant fields, and provide support and assistance within its capacity to other developing countries.

盖茨表示，中国在减贫和应对新冠疫情方面取得了举世瞩目的巨大成就，为世界树立了很好的榜样。盖茨基金会承诺未来5年向全球健康药物研发中心提供5000万美元捐赠，北京市政府承诺提供同等规模的资金支持，重点帮助中低收入国家中面临传染病风险更大的脆弱人群。

Gates said that China has made remarkable achievements in poverty reduction and response to the new crown epidemic, and has set a good example for the world. The Gates Foundation pledged to donate US$50 million to the Global Health Drug Research and Development Center in the next five years, and the Beijing Municipal Government promised to provide financial support of the same size, focusing on helping vulnerable groups in low- and middle-income countries who are more at risk of infectious diseases.

盖茨向被誉为“杂交水稻之父”的中国农业科学家袁隆平致敬。他说：“袁隆平培训了来自50多个国家的3000多名水稻科学家，他们把从他那里学到的东西应用到自己的国家。数十亿人因此得以生存和发展，很难想象还有什么创新能与之媲美。”

Gates paid tribute to Yuan Longping, a Chinese agricultural scientist known as the "father of hybrid rice." "Yuan Longping has trained more than 3,000 rice scientists from more than 50 countries, and they have applied what they have learned from him to their own countries. Billions of people have survived and thrived as a result, and it is hard to imagine what else innovation is comparable to that.
