【创新课堂】用画作探索故事情节——VBS外教跨学科融合课堂趣味十足

VBS net news:The primary school ESL department teacher, Kyle and the art teacher Lara combined their powers in an exciting and fun project this semester with the grade 1 students. The students were reading a story about treasure in Kyle’s ESL class and we decided on a fun and creative way to explore the storyline and teach the students new vocabulary by means of making a treasure map in Lara’s art class which will be integrated into their ESL lessons. The students were shown how to draw a compass, ocean, island, monster, and all sorts of other extras needed for an exciting treasure map, while also embedding the terms into their long-term memories. Each student also had to mark the spot of their treasure with an “x” and use dotted line to navigate the reader to the “x”. Some students drew monsters and sharks, while others concentrated on illustrating a skull and bones, animals and plant life. Throughout the project, both Lara and the art assistant, Aaron were entertained by all the fantastic stories the students conjured up.

 

万双网讯:小学 ESL 老师Kyle与艺术老师Lara在这一学期开展了一项令人兴奋又有趣味性的课程融合项目。学生们在Kyle老师的 ESL 课堂上阅读一个关于宝藏的故事。两个不同学科的老师,决定用一种有趣和创造性的方式来引领学生探索故事情节。首先,通过在Lara的艺术课上制作一张藏宝图, 并且将这些词汇整合到他们的 ESL 课程中。Lara老师向学生们展示了如何绘制指南针、海洋、岛屿、怪物和令人兴奋的藏宝图所需的各种其他额外物品, 同时也将这些术语嵌入到他们的长期记忆中。每个学生还必须用 "x" 在藏宝图上标记他们的宝藏点, 并使用虚线将读者导航到 "x"。有的学生画了怪物和鲨鱼, 有的学生则集中在说明头骨和骨头、动物和植物生命上。在整个项目过程中, Lara与其助教老师都对学生们想象出来的所有精彩故事表示惊叹。

 



The students first started drawing with pencil and then switched over to using black marker and oil pastel for colour on an antique map template. Each student enjoyed the project immensely and while the maps were collected by the teachers, some didn’t want to part ways with their beloved maps. They were told not to worry about their maps as they will be returned to them during ESL class the following week, when Kyle will be hosting a treasure hunt activity with the students.

 

学生们首先开始用铅笔画画, 然后在古色古香的地图模板上改用黑色标记和油彩作为颜色。每个学生都非常喜欢这个项目, 虽然地图是老师们收集的, 但有些学生不想与他们心爱的地图分道扬镳。老师告诉他们不要担心地图, 因为他们将在未来几周的 ESL 课堂上使用到并最终返还给他们。

 

By combining visual art and literature during learning deepened the understanding of concepts for students and here at VBS we try our best to make sure that all of our students are meeting their academic outcomes successfully.
