【创新课堂】非一般的“寻宝”体验——当ART与ESL跨学科融合

Currently in our ESL class, Grade 1 students are reading a book called Treasure Hunt.  Out of the four books we will use this semester, this one was chosen as the second because it is a smooth yet challenging transition from our first book.  This allows students to work towards a harder goal, without feeling intimidated.  There are so many interesting activities we have done (and will continue to do) to promote a deeper understanding of the story, as well as improve the students’ English literacy. 

 

目前,Kyle老师在一年级的ESL课堂上正带领学生们阅读一本名为《寻宝》的英文绘本。在这学期我们将使用四本绘本。我们选择了这本书作为第二本, 因为这与我们的第一本书相比, 是一个顺理成章但具有挑战性的过渡。 这使得学生能够朝着更努力的目标努力, 而不会感到害怕。 我们已经做了很多有趣的活动 (未来的每一节课堂,我们都将继续设计与这个年龄段相符合的课堂活动), 以促进学生对故事的更深入的了解,提高学生的英语素养。

Today’s lesson was a fun activity that required students to really put what they have learned into action.  As a class, we worked on an activity where students read and followed the clues (one of our newly learned vocabulary words) in order to decode the “Secret Message”!  Clear learning goals and interactive activities for the students are very helpful for them to succeed in their English learning.  However, what really makes the teachers feel good about their is when they see those plans in action and creatively collaborated, and see the children enjoying their learning experience!

今天的这节课也是非常互动的, 需要学生真正把学到的东西付诸实施。 作为一个班级, 我们从事的活动是让学生阅读和关注线索 (我们新学习的词汇之一), 以解码 "秘密信息"! 清晰的目标设定、设计适理的课堂活动, 能为学生提供英语学习的成功方法。

However, what really makes the teachers feel good about their is when they see those plans in action and creatively collaborated, and see the children enjoying their learning experience! For these weeks’ ESL classes, we also invite VBS Art teacher Ms. Lara to join by providing students a drawing experience by designing their own treasure maps which will be practically apply into their ESL classrooms as an extension. This kind of cross-subjects collaboration is conducting and will be continued.

然而, 对任课老师本身来说,感觉很巧妙的是, 当我看到这些计划在行动, 我看到孩子们享受他们的学习经历! 为了让学生有更多更好的体验,我们还特别与艺术外教Lara女士进行了学科整合教学的设想。孩子们在艺术室制作了专属于自己的“寻宝地图”,然后再到ESL课堂进行运用。这种跨学科整合的外教课程一直都在进行,并会继续。
