VBS News Students dressed up as their favorite scientists to have a passionate show. They spoke out science dreams loudly in the center of the stage. They paid high respects to the scientists who have made outstanding contributions and listened to a scientist’s speech about the future of digital intelligence to improve digital literacy. They joined Science Salon and solved countless "why" questions. From May 12th to 24th, activities of the second VBS Scientists' Day were held with the theme of "Let’s Always Be Curious About Science". The four theme activities including Scientist's Lecture, Science Salon, My Science Dream and My 100+ Questions About the World, ignited students’ science interests and innovative thinking, which gives students wings for their science dreams.

2021年5月24日,万科双语学校在剧场举行了华大基因向学校捐赠基因测序仪仪式暨“科学家日”首场学术报告会。为纪念这意义非凡的一天,万科双语学校将每年五月最后一周的周二定为学校的“科学家日”。今年的科学家日,同样是5月24日。当天,通过科学竞赛获得入场券的300多名热爱科学的VBS学子来到剧场,现场聆听科学家讲座。
On May 24th, 2021, a ceremony was held about the donation of a gene sequencer from BGI to school and it is also the first academic lecture of "Scientists' Day". In order to commemorate this significant day, Vanke Bilingual School designated each year's Tuesday of the last week of May as "VBS Scientists' Day ". The Scientists' Day of this year was on May 24th. On the day, more than 300 VBS students who won tickets through the science competition came to the theater to attend the scientist’s lecture.

本次科学家讲座特邀北京大学电子与信息博士袁晖为同学们带来了“数智未来——提高数字素养让你遇见最好的自己”主题讲座。袁博士从元宇宙、地球村、知识量、新未来谈起,指出当下即未来,要形成有价值的知识库体系,构建人类命运共同体;他分享了数字素养、数字伦理、数字鸿沟的概念,医用水刀、 智能穿戴等新研发的项目,指出世界是被设计的,创新是可被训练的,数字赋能创新,创新力是一切研发的基础……他希望同学们不断用第二大脑优化数字素养,打破思想牢笼解放认知,并赋能完整人格,不做高科技和信息碎片的搜索机器,学会真正教育驾驭知识的本领,找回独立思考的能力,在学习、工作、生活中不断磨练自己,让失败打磨坚毅的品质,从精明、聪明变为开明睿智的人,遇见最好的自己。
Yuan Hui, a doctor of philosophy in electronics and information of Peking University, was invited to give a lecture on the theme of "Digital Intelligence Future - Improving your digital literacy to meet the best yourselves. Dr. Yuan talked about the Metaverse, the Global Village, the amount of knowledge and the new future. He pointed out that the present was the future and it was necessary to form a valuable knowledge system and to build a community with a shared future for mankind. He shared the concepts of digital literacy, digital ethics, digital divide, medical water jet, intelligent wear and other new projects. He pointed out that the world was designed and innovation could be trained. Digits empowered innovation and innovation was the basis of all projects. He hoped that students would use their second brains to optimize digital literacy, break the ideological cages and renew cognition to get a complete personality. 5月12日至20日,全校开展“我的科学梦” “主题演讲+cosplay走秀”海选系列活动,通过自愿报名、班级、年级及校级选拔,马海妮、李知谦、吴东深、陈瑗、金家钰、杨子美、纪茗睿、黄一铭、牛睿博、雷晞嘉、张致远、关贺聪等12名同学成功入选演讲者,于24日在剧场声情并茂地讲述了对科学家们的无限敬意和自己的科学梦。
From May 12th to 20th, VBS held a series of audition activities of "My Science Dream" and "Speech and Cosplay Show". Through voluntary signing up, selections on the class, grade and school level, 12 students, including Ma Haini, Li Zhiqian, Wu Dongshen, Chen Yuan, Jin Jiayu, Yang Zimei, Ji Mingrui, Huang Yiming, Niu Ruibo, Lei Xijia, Zhang Zhiyuan and Guan Hecong, were selected as speakers. Guan Hecong from Class 8F said, "If Edison broke the gap of kerosene, then Tesla lit up the road sign of illuminating the world. He is a man who is like God and brightens my science dream. He is dedicated to academic research, technology and innovation but indifferent to fame and wealth. He lives up to his original intention."

Twenty-four students acted as Leonardo da Vinci, Qian Xuesen, Yuan Longping, Tu Youyou, Edison, Gu Fangzhou, Newton, Madame Curie, Einstein, Galileo, Lin Qiaozhi, Hawking and other scientists, which won warm applause from the audience.

学生家长、优必选科技执行董事、前华为全球长期激励负责人刘明先生来到了万双科学沙龙,他以“智领先机,与AI同行——人工智能将如何改变我们的生活”为主题,向同学们介绍我国自主知识产权的AI技术及应用,对日常生活和未来工作的影响,并现场用机器人和同学们互动。同学们现场让机器人背诵圆周率、跳舞,机器人的高智商让同学们大开眼界。
Mr. Liu, a student's parent, executive director of Ubtech Robotics Corporation, former global long-term incentive director of Huawei, came to VBS Science Salon. With the theme of "Intelligence Leads the Way, Walks With AI – How Will AI Change Our Life", he introduced AI technology and applications which are China's independent and intellectual property rights to students, as well as their impact on daily life and future work. He interacted with students with robots. Students let the robots recite PI and dance on the spot, which blew students’ mind.

Mr. Wang, a student's parent, deputy director of 5G Solution Sales Department of Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., introduced the new applications with 5G broadband and low delay characteristics, the future daily life of 5G + Metaverse to students with the topic of "5G + Metaverse, Avatar Walks Into Reality". 同学们:
我首先祝贺万双第二个“科学家日”如期举行!
万双科学家日是为同学们设立的,希望通过参与活动,让同学们思考问题,感受科学的魅力,洞悉科学发展的脉搏,学科学、爱科学,促进同学们树立远大理想,将来为祖国、为人类的科学事业作出贡献。
我浏览了同学们在“我对这世界的100问”中提出的问题。 7C班杨馥榕问,暗物质是宇宙中最神秘的物质,它从哪里来,又因什么而产生呢?——这样的大问题,等待你们未来与科学家一起去探索解答。3C班丁于倩问,为什么雨滴是向下落的?不是向上升呢?——大科学家牛顿被树上掉下的苹果砸到时也问了同样的问题。虽然这样的问题科学家早就给出了答案,但我们是学生,我们正在学习阶段,在没有学到这些知识时,能够这样思考,提出这么有价值的问题,是多么难能可贵呀!爱因斯坦(A.Einstein,1879-1955)曾经说过:“提出一个问题往往比解决一个问题更重要,因为解决问题也许仅是一个数学上或实验上的技能而已。而提出新的问题、新的可能性,从新的角度去看旧的问题,却需要有创造性的想象力,而且标志着科学的真正进步。”我为你们自豪,你们在推动科学的进步呢!
6C班林凡问,成为一个科学家需要具备哪些品质?我查阅了一些资料,归纳了爱因斯坦对一些科学家的评价,可以看到他非常重视的科学家应具备的几种才能:想象力、直觉的理解力、数学才能。当然,我想,远大目标、好奇心、善于观察、坚毅品质也是必不可少的。
少年时代的爱因斯坦对自然界的一些现象,不是等闲视之,而是有强烈的好奇心,这使他的求知欲永远得不到满足,对自然的探索,也永远不能停止。4岁时,他曾为一只罗盘的指针而“惊奇”:它应有无穷多个方向可以挑选,却为什么总是偏爱南方?他想:“一定有什么东西深深地隐藏在事情后面。”12岁时,他又为欧几里得几何而“惊奇”:几何学的“这种明晰性和可靠性给我造成了一种难以形容的印象”。毫无疑问,几何学对他后来建立相对论,不仅提供了工具,而且给予了方法论的启示。

Guan Hecong from Class 8F said, "If Edison broke the gap of kerosene, then Tesla lit up the road sign of illuminating the world. He is a man who is like God and brightens my science dream. 学生家长、优必选科技执行董事、前华为全球长期激励负责人刘明先生来到了万双科学沙龙,他以“智领先机,与AI同行——人工智能将如何改变我们的生活”为主题,向同学们介绍我国自主知识产权的AI技术及应用,对日常生活和未来工作的影响,并现场用机器人和同学们互动。同学们现场让机器人背诵圆周率、跳舞,机器人的高智商让同学们大开眼界。
Mr. Liu, a student's parent, executive director of Ubtech Robotics Corporation, former global long-term incentive director of Huawei, came to VBS Science Salon. With the theme of "Intelligence Leads the Way, Walks With AI – How Will AI Change Our Life", he introduced AI technology and applications which are China's independent and intellectual property rights to students, as well as their impact on daily life and future work. He interacted with students with robots. Students let the robots recite PI and dance on the spot, which blew students’ mind.

On May 16th, every student filled in the "i question card". Students wrote down countless questions about the world. After selection by teachers, there was a high-frequency question list. What did human beings evolve from?", "Where will people go after death? Is there a next life?", "Why can people only live to be 100 years old? Can we live forever?", "Are genes selfish?", "Why are the leaves green? Why are the petals not green?", "How do rainbows come into being? Why can people see objects of different colors?", "Why do we see the lightning before the rainbow?", "Why do the stars blink?", "Why is Indonesia the country with the most volcanoes in the world?", "What is the red liquid in the nucleic acid test tube? What is its function?", "How does the CPU work?", "How can we overcome procrastination?". On May 24th, the "Science Communicators" recruited from students came to the class and answered questions for students one by one.

同学们:
我首先祝贺万双第二个“科学家日”如期举行!
万双科学家日是为同学们设立的,希望通过参与活动,让同学们思考问题,感受科学的魅力,洞悉科学发展的脉搏,学科学、爱科学,促进同学们树立远大理想,将来为祖国、为人类的科学事业作出贡献。
我浏览了同学们在“我对这世界的100问”中提出的问题。 7C班杨馥榕问,暗物质是宇宙中最神秘的物质,它从哪里来,又因什么而产生呢?——这样的大问题,等待你们未来与科学家一起去探索解答。3C班丁于倩问,为什么雨滴是向下落的?不是向上升呢?——大科学家牛顿被树上掉下的苹果砸到时也问了同样的问题。虽然这样的问题科学家早就给出了答案,但我们是学生,我们正在学习阶段,在没有学到这些知识时,能够这样思考,提出这么有价值的问题,是多么难能可贵呀!爱因斯坦(A.Einstein,1879-1955)曾经说过:“提出一个问题往往比解决一个问题更重要,因为解决问题也许仅是一个数学上或实验上的技能而已。而提出新的问题、新的可能性,从新的角度去看旧的问题,却需要有创造性的想象力,而且标志着科学的真正进步。”我为你们自豪,你们在推动科学的进步呢!
6C班林凡问,成为一个科学家需要具备哪些品质?我查阅了一些资料,归纳了爱因斯坦对一些科学家的评价,可以看到他非常重视的科学家应具备的几种才能:想象力、直觉的理解力、数学才能。当然,我想,远大目标、好奇心、善于观察、坚毅品质也是必不可少的。
少年时代的爱因斯坦对自然界的一些现象,不是等闲视之,而是有强烈的好奇心,这使他的求知欲永远得不到满足,对自然的探索,也永远不能停止。4岁时,他曾为一只罗盘的指针而“惊奇”:它应有无穷多个方向可以挑选,却为什么总是偏爱南方?他想:“一定有什么东西深深地隐藏在事情后面。”12岁时,他又为欧几里得几何而“惊奇”:几何学的“这种明晰性和可靠性给我造成了一种难以形容的印象”。毫无疑问,几何学对他后来建立相对论,不仅提供了工具,而且给予了方法论的启示。
