SOLE stands for Self Organized Learning Environment, it was originated from Professor Sugata Mitra, University of Newcastle, UK and aimed to encourage children to explore and exploit natural inquisitiveness to form a self-motivated learning environment. In the form of teamwork, to perform result-oriented and question-based independent learning, self-management and self-evolution.

在万双的校园里,学生社团就是这么一个志同道合人员的集合体。社团成员由有共同兴趣和爱好的在校就读学生自愿组成,由两位同学发起,招募。社团成员一般不少于6人。学校现有72个学生社团。

In VBS, students society is the place where like-minded students unite. Members of each society consist of students who share common interests and voluntarily sign up for. Two students are required to initiate their society and recruit no fewer than four members. Currently VBS has 72 students societies.
万双的学生社团活动内容分为领导素养、科学素养、人文素养、艺术素养、体育素质、专题探究、生活技能、服务实践等八大类别。学生们在这八大类别的框架内能畅所欲想,自由发挥,设计和组建自己感兴趣的社团,找到志同道合的伙伴。
Society activities are classified into eight categories - leadership, scientific, humanities, artistic, sports, project research, life skills and service learning. Students are free to think, design, and form societies based on their interests, and through these societies like-minded pupils can come together and learn from each other.

As the idea of student societies comes across with the students' interests, surprisingly we see students are excited. With dreams inside their hearts, they are passionate about the societies created by their own - they put up creative flyers and cheers during the fervent recruitment session as well as plan boldly but realistically and organise activities with focus and seriousness.

Our society is tailored for students who have interests in science and technology, who love science, who are curious and strong in logics, who have critical thinking skills and innovations. We believe that programming is the second most commonly used language in future, and a tool to AI. As for now, we choose leaders in the form of rotation as tutors and invite teachers for guidance. We also have a parents committee which invites parents from the sector to guide us from time to time, while organising exhibition tours to high-tech enterprises to broaden our horizons.

我本人喜欢和语言表达相关的活动,如采访、朗诵、主持和演戏。成立社团是希望我和同学们在采访、拍照、语言表达方面的能力有所提升。同时,我觉得这些能力对于同学们来说也很重要,希望大家共同学习、进步。在社团活动中,我觉得自己的语言表达能力得到了提高,在采访他人或接受采访时,知道怎么组织语言了。我将来的梦想是成为一名专业演员,作为演员最重要的技能之一就是如何表达自己以及随机应变的能力,这两项技能都在社团活动中得到了锻炼。
I like activities related to language articulation such as interviewing, reciting, hosting and performing a play. The establishment of the society is to improve our ability in those areas. I think this ability is crucial for pupils, and hope everyone learn and progress. In conducting activities, I have improved my linguistic ability and know how to organise my expressions upon interviews. My dream is to become a professional actress, in which one of the key aspects is to express yourself and improvise. I have honed these two skills in doing society activities.

I hope every member in this society can craft innovative paintings. As I teach members to paint using colorful gels or . Currently we have nine members, and we take turns to be the president so that everyone gets to show their talents. It is delighted for me to take the president position as I constantly improve myself by mulling over on things I plan to teach fellow members to paint every single day.

我们社团有12人,与有共同爱好的同学一起打球是一件很开心的事。大家在一起有说有笑,增进了友谊。通过学习和交流,我懂得了正规比赛的规则,我梦想有一天当一名演员或一名优秀的球员。
We have 12 members in our society, it is real fun to play basketball with pupils having the common interest. Everyone gets to know one another in laughters as we play along. Through learning from one another and communication, I understand the rules of the game and I would like to be an actor or an excellent basketball player.

为了与大家一起感受足球的乐趣,增强体质,我们成立了足球社团。目前有社员16名。大家在操场分队踢球,或展开一场点球大战,十分过瘾。我的梦想是进入中国足球队,并且当队长。
To improve our fitness and enjoy playing football with everybody, we form the football society. Currently it has 16 members. We often separate into groups to play matches or penalty shout-out at the pitch, which is thrilling. My dream is to be the captain of Chinese national football team.

“自我”现在越来越普及,国内这几年火热的“PBL”,就是基于项目制的学习,强调自主探究。
而“环境”往往却被忽略。学习并不是单打独斗,一个人就算再牛,能力也有局限。
如何营造一个学习好环境,利用环境优势学到最多最好,从同伴中学习。是SOLE教育给我们带来更有启发的部分。也是万小双在“社团活动”中进行的探索和整合。
In the SOLE, we observe the two main ideas - 'self' and 'environment'. With the popularisation of 'self' concept and the famous 'PBL', i.e. Project-based Learning, emphasises on independent research.
However, 'environment' is often neglected. Studying is not about doing a solo work, one person still has his/her limits even he/she is naturally intelligent. Exploiting the environment to maximise learning and building a conducive studying environment to facilitate learning from one another, is the part where SOLE enlightens us. This is also what VBS is trying to integrate and explore through student societies.

We sincerely hope our students to collaborate and communicate, to innovate and create, in the execution and organising societies activities.
