VBS News Net: The ceremony of BGI's Donation of Gene Sequencer to VBS and the first symposium of VBS Scientist Day was held on May 24. 175 students and some teachers who got tickets by answering questions participated in the activity, and all teachers and students watched the live broadcast.

The guests attending the activity were Assistant to the dean of BGI College, Researcher at South China University of Technology, Mr. Jin Xin, Deputy Director of BGI Commerce Department Ms. Xin Peipei, Science education Manager of BGI College, Ms. Zhou Jing, and General Manager of Shenzhen Meisha Education，Mr. Dou Lianhui.

The Donation Ceremony

Yao Junxi, the Science and Technology Society president, gave a science popularization before the ceremony, which was praised by the audience and leaders.

Principal Yang extended her warmest welcome and sincerest thanks to the guests. In her speech, she hoped that all the students would become scientists in the future. She also wrote a thank-you letter. She said, 'Letting technology help students create a better future is our vision. Here, we sincerely thank BGI for its selfless donation and help.

Deputy Director of BGI Commerce Department Ms. Xin Peipei also gave a speech at the ceremony. She pointed out that as the world's leading genomics testing and research service provider, BGI, adhering to the mission of bringing benefits to humans through technology, has made outstanding contributions to scientific research and popular science education for young people. The Gene Sequencer donated to VBS was independently developed by BGI, hoping to bring new experiences to teenagers.

 General Manager of Shenzhen Meisha Education, Mr. Dou Lianhui, issued the Letter of Appointment to Dr. Jin, appointing Dr. Jin Xin as an Expert Member of Meisha Think Tank. 

VBS also prepared a gift for BGI, a VBS currency commemorative book.

To commemorate this significant day, VBS set May 24 as the VBS Scientist Day. Ms. Xin, Dr. Jin, Mr. Dou, and Principal Yang started the ceremony.

Dr. Jin Xin, the assistant to the dean of BGI College, the researcher at South China University of Technology, Outstanding Youth of the Natural Science Fundation of Guangdong Province, gave a lecture after the ceremony, which brought students a brand new scientific vision.

Strategic cooperation agreement

In October 2020, Meisha education and BGI officially signed a strategic cooperation agreement. They will cooperate in STEM education, life science education, innovative curriculum development and build a science experiment teaching base suitable for the whole learning period, inspiring students' interest in basic subjects.

Comprehensive practice and learning activities

ICG-15 was held in Wuhan from October 25 to October 31, with many experts attending. Yao Junxi, Chairperson of VBS Science and Engineering Student Society, made the speech titled 'The possibility of genes in future' as a secondary school representative and received compliments.

44 VBS students went for an excursion to CNGB at Dapeng Peninsula on November 15.

In February, VBS opened an elective course on genes in junior high school. Li Yuqi, the science popularization project manager of BGI college, was invited to teach the course. 24 students took part in the courses. This is an enlightenment course. Ms. Li guides students to discover and understand the world and constructs the basic knowledge framework of genes.
