VBS News Net: It is essential for teachers and parents to develop children's personality and conduct effective communications with them, hence VBS Parents Academy has held the first lecture of this semester on family education at the school theatre. Guest lecturer Ms Wang Xiaofei, founder of New Hope International Positive Discipline Academy, and PDTC, provided insightful answers on 'how to conduct an effective communication with children' at 6.30pm on 25th September.

This lecture was targeted at parents whose children were currently studying at Primary One. Through some role-playing games and interactive experience sessions, Ms Wang enabled parents to experience the art of listening and learn to use positive words. She also showed how parents could utilise effective measures to establish positive pauses, give options for children to make choices while helping them manage their own emotions or deal with disagreements. She suggested that parents ought to give up the will to control children, allow children to have some trial and error exercise and allow them to think independently. The key to raise questions which were enlightening was to ensure the love connection, enabled their children to experience respect and equality. 

During the lecture, Ms Wang believed that the communication targeted on behaviour was the lowest level of communication. Parents should focus on the future and provide guidance on children's emotional well-being, sense of belonging, views of life and values, hence firmly following the plan with kindness. 

After putting themselves into children's shoes, parents felt deeply for their children's emotional needs and learnt how to conduct effective communications with children.
